•  Jana receives two Bronzes Awards from The Portrait Master's International Competition in the category of Contemporary Portraiture and Creative Themed Portraits.

2016

•  Jana is honored with the "2016 Gail Rich Award" by the Santa Cruz Sentinel's Wallace Baine and Shmuel Thaler, for her photography and contributions to the arts in Santa Cruz County.

 

2012

• Transfigurations receives Gold Medal for "Best LGBT Non-Fiction Book of 2012" by the Independent Publishers Association Book Awards of New York. The 2012 IPPY awards competition had 5,203 total entries from the United States, Canada and 10 countries.

• Jana Marcus named one of 50 Exceptional International Photographers by Exposure of New York, July, 2012.

 

2011

• Transfigurations named part of "Best Overlooked Books of 2011" by The Advocate Magazine, December, 2011.

 

• Jana Marcus named Community Activist of the Year by BAYMEC (Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee).

 

2008/2009

• Nominated for the Rydell Visual Arts Fellowship.

 

2006

• Good Times Critic's Choice for Best Photo Exhibit of 2006.

 

• Nominated for Community Leadership Award in the Arts, San Francisco Foundation.

 

2005

• Included in Best Pictures of the Year 2005 by Photo District News of New York, for the second year in a row! The winning images of Transfigurations transgender women were published in the May 2005 issue of PDN's Photo Annual and online at www.pdnonline.com.

 

• The International Photography Awards gave Transfigurations honorable mention in the category of Editorial/Photo Essay. IPA's mission is to salute the achievements of the world's finest photographers, to discover new and emerging talent, and to promote the appreciation of photography. The 2005 IPA competition received 16,648 entries from 32 countries.

 

• Excellence in Photography Award from San Jose State's School of Art & Design.

 

• Included in the Phelan Art Awards, exhibited at SF Cameraworks.

 

2004

• Included in Photo District News' prestigious Photo Annual Best Pictures of the Year, for Transfigurations images of Transgender men The  Photography Annual highlights the best photography of the year in eight categories. The winners were chosen by a prestigious jury of photo editors, gallery owners, art directors and photo academics from across the country.

 

• Center for Photographic Arts Awards, selected by Philip Brookman, Curator of Photography and Media Arts, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. Exhibited October 2 - Dec 3, 2004 at CPA gallery in Carmel, CA.
