"You are beautiful and wonderfully created to be the unique woman that only you can be. Seek out mentors you value, love, and trust - they will be your biggest cheerleaders."

AGE: 55

PROFESSION: Nurse/Airline Custome Service Agent

What is the best thing about being your age? Not feeling I have to apologize for my feelings, thoughts, or opinions. At this point I have enough life experience, that if you don't like what I have to say, nor wish to listen and engage in meaningful conversations, I no longer waste my time or breath on convincing you otherwise.

What hardships have you endured that you feel have made you stronger?

Having two of my children struggle with health issues, taught me to be an advocate with the heart of a warrior. Going into battle every day until answers were found and they could see their life become better. This taught me I will go to any and all lengths when it comes to fighting for my children – "no" is not an option.

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

This one is easy- concerts and travel!! I have made it a must to see artists I absolutely love and prioritizing making those moments happen. This year it was George Strait, The Eagles and Kiss 🎶 New York and Ireland.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I don't believe there is a perfect anything. But I strongly believe that happiness is a choice. I wake up every day and choose to be happy, no person or thing can give me that, it comes from within.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

My heart for others. I seek to help out anyone in need. Whether it is a formal charity, paying for someone's coffee or lunch, or taking a meal when a friend is sick. If there is a need, and I can, I will always help.

What is your most treasured possession?

My kids. My family. My circle of friends. I was told this year by a wise friend, that I place my value in people – which made me richer than anyone they knew.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My children. They are the legacy I leave this world...and I know that they make it a better place because of the humans that they are.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My hands. I wish that they were just a little bigger and my fingers slightly longer. It would have made playing the piano so much easier.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Shoes. One can never have enough – if they are cute, and comfortable – I will buy them! Life is too short for hurting feet. 😉

What advice would you give your younger self?

You are enough. Life is going to be amazing – worry less about what people think or say about you. Don't let fear rule, or stop you, from trying something. Your dreams are opportunities – failing is just a turn in your path, not a stop or the end. So keep going. You are amazing and the heart you have for others – don't ever change that!

What is your motto or favorite quote?

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." – Ferris Bueler

Words of wisdom to younger women

You are beautiful and wonderfully created to be the unique woman that only you can be. Find yourself women of every age, and build up a circle of friends. Seek out mentors you value, love, and trust – they will be your biggest cheerleaders. Listen to them. Embrace all of their advice, allow them to pour into you. They will feed your soul and help you grow. And when you are older, do the same for the generations that follow. This is a wonderful sisterhood to which we belong.

Additional thoughts...

Aging is natural. Embrace each phase of life. Take the lessons gleaned from every stage and use them to build your foundation. Life is a wonderment- don't skip or regret a single part.
