"Every gray hair, wrinkle, and age spot we get is telling a story about our lives.

Our job is to make

sure that they tell

good ones."

AGE: 55

PROFESSION: Professor, media critic, travel writer, story teller

What is the best thing about being your age?

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

What's your favorite thing you have checked off your bucket list?

Floating on the Nile at sunset and watching a group of children on a sand bank in the middle of the river chasing an errant cow back into their row boat.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

I don't believe in perfect happiness. I do think, however, that we can be happy enough as long as we choose to look for it within ourselves.

What is your most treasured possession?

My writing and art supplies.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Being able to travel around the world alone and enjoy it.

What is a trait you are most proud of?

I am a very creative person who is fond of her sardonic wit.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Create a life-long habit of making time for the things you love to do early in life. That way you'll never feel the need to justify yourself for doing those things as you get older.

What is your motto or favorite quote?

"You do you."

Words of wisdom to younger women

Get an education. It's one of the few things in life that can't be taken away from you.

Anything else you would like to share about aging...

Additional thoughts....

Every gray hair, wrinkle, and age spot we get is telling a story about our lives. Our job is to make sure that they tell good ones.
